Tale
The story of how a young Donald Trump started his real estate business in the 1970s and 1980s in New York City with the help of infamous attorney Roy M. Cohn. Roger Stone, a longtime associate of both Donald Trump and Roy M. Cohn, admitted that Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Cohn was “terrifying in its accuracy.” [From Trailer] Roy Cohn: Rule Three: No matter what happens, you claim victory and never admit defeat.. Shocking scenes usually have a purpose
Cutler Published by BMG Rights Management (UK) Limited.. Movies have been going through a lot of changes lately and I’m here for it. Megalopolis was a wonderful mess, Joker 2 was a mess without being wonderful (but I guess it had risks), Terrifier 3 really made me sick (I didn’t sleep well last night because I watched it last night too), and now The Apprentice is going to some crazy places. There are several points where I wondered "are they allowed to show this?" I was shocked. I think the movie’s argument is presented without much subtlety, but I guess some people still think Jordan Belfort is great based on The Wolf of Wall Street, so who knows.
Will Trump Sue?
On the other hand, there is one very disturbing scene in this that seems to be there to say unequivocally what the filmmakers think of Trump’s character. This will be the most controversial scene. Has this process started yet? There’s also a lack of continuity to this scene, which left me even more uneasy and upset. I think that was the intention.
The three leads – Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova – are phenomenal
Some people won’t like it – people who both like and dislike Trump – and I wonder if that will make The Apprentice this year’s Blonde. The writing stakes things out in The Apprentice and I don’t; don’t think it knew how to end, but otherwise I found this fascinating. The juxtaposition of the rise of Trump with the fall of Roy Cohn was an unavoidable point of view, but it makes for an extremely compelling drama. The film is rough, but there are some nuances in parts that I think will spark discussion and/or controversy. I’m not always into provocation, but when it feels purposeful and it’s backed up with good filmmaking, I’m on board.
This movie will stick in my mind for a while
