A retired CIA agent is hunted by both the agency he once worked for and his own nightmares, when an unknown man suddenly visits him after nearly three decades.. During this time, Jeff Bridges was diagnosed with and subsequently treated for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. After he recovered, the series returned to production. Bridges described the return as coming back after a "long weekend" on podcast in July 2022.

His character makes those grunting sounds from the effort of getting up in the morning, and you also hear a very sporadic stream of urine in the middle of the night. Starting with Peter Bogdanovich’s "The Last Movie Show," Bridges went on to build an enviable career thanks to a number of carefully crafted roles, each truly unique, and most of them more memorable than the last.

He was finally awarded the long-awaited Oscar for the best actor for the film "Crazy Heart" a few years ago, and then we almost lost it last year due to CoVID-19. But he’s back as a battered old ex-spy and he’s perfect for this latest complex role. Also by most narrow definitions, an old man. Is he the obvious villain of this story or is he actually the hero?

Not to be missed

You’re never quite sure with a Lithgow character, and this one is no exception. The supporting roles of longtime pros like Amy Brenneman and Joel Gray are also well written and, of course, superbly performed. But make no mistake: this miniseries belongs entirely to the one and only Jeff Bridges. And thus also to all of us who, even after more than half a century, have remained his longtime fans. 9/10.
