Tale
A high-powered CEO puts his career and family on the line when he begins a steamy affair with his much younger intern. I recently watched Babygirl and I have to say it’s one of the most unique and daring thrillers I’ve seen in a while.
First of all, the visual effects are amazing
The film, directed by Halina Rein, dives deep into the complexities of the dynamics of human desire and power, enveloped in an intense, almost suffocating atmosphere. Jasper Wolf’s cinematography captures the raw emotion of each scene by combining light and shadow to create an atmospheric, almost dreamlike world.
Nicole Kidman gives a stunning performance, bringing a mixture of vulnerability and cold calculation to her character
There’s a constant sense of tension, as if something explosive is always on the verge of happening, and the pacing keeps you on your toes. Although the supporting cast is lesser known, they also do a great job and add depth and unpredictability to the story.
Babygirl isn’t for everyone, though
Without giving too much away, the film’s exploration of psychological control and subjugation feels both disturbing and mesmerizing. Its erotic elements are tastefully done, but may feel uncomfortable or controversial to some viewers.
It’s haunting, stylish, and will keep you thinking about it long after the credits roll
Sometimes the story seems deliberately vague, forcing you to connect the characters' motivations that I found fascinating but might frustrate others. Overall, if you like psychological thrillers that aren’t afraid of taboo subjects and push boundaries, Babygirl is definitely worth a watch.
