When visionary architect László Tóth and his wife Erzsébete flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are forever changed by a mysterious, wealthy client. Filming took place over a total of 34 days. Filming took place in Budapest, Hungary and Carrara, Italy. It’s as if Vincent Van Gogh had created this absolute masterpiece
Brutalist: The Brutalist is a painting that comes to life on screen. From the subtle, yet extremely effective and powerful sound design and score. Not to mention the amazing cinematography, every frame comes to life before your eyes. I can’t speak highly enough of Brady Corbett and his vision. The fact that this is an original script is a true testament to how the film industry should be run.
That’s how you make a movie
Brutalist is a grounded story that takes you to places emotionally that I wasn’t ready to go. It’s such a deep and powerful story. I’m glad this movie is 3 hours and 35 minutes long because it deserves the right to take the time to tell the story. And it’s three and a half hours of pure cinematic enjoyment. I sat through every scene in pure awe.
Adrien Brody is a masterclass in acting
The acting. You can see everything, the tearful scenes, the subtle moments and gestures, the look in his eyes. He has such a breadth in a film that I don’t think I’ve seen that level of performance in a while. Guy Pearce is absolutely stunning, terrifyingly terrifying at times. Felicity Jones comes into the story later than I thought she would, but she totally holds her own, she’s a real beauty.
In short, Brutalist is a three and a half hour show
It’s earned its place in the world of cinema and then some. Brady Corbett is a genius and I can’t wait to see more of his projects. Brutalist = 9.8/10. From Alien: Romulus to Road House, take a look back at some of our favorite 2024 posters.
